Primary Purpose:
- Planning menus according to the USDA regulations for the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program guidelines.
- Responsible for building and maintaining a database for nutritional analysis.
- Perform nutrition analysis on all recipes and menus to determine nutritional adequacy and adherence to all guidelines.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or a related area Registered Dietitian Preferred Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (Spanish) is strongly preferred, but not required. Knowledge of child nutrition program regulations Strong communication and interpersonal skills Experience: School experience is preferred, but not required.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Monitor, coordinate, and maintain required records for students with special dietary needs. Modify menus to fit the required special diets. Instruct employees on food purchasing and preparation techniques.
- Develops district’s menus by USDA, TDA, and SISD menu planning guidelines. The district requires PK, K, K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 cycles for both breakfast and lunch.
- Develops production records to coordinate with planned menus.
- Data input for all recipes. Creates, reviews, and approves all recipes.
- Builds database to be able to analyze all recipes and menus for nutrients and calories.
- Develops and promotes nutrition education activities in the district.
- Coordinates all nutrition-related projects.
- Assist with the management of commodities.
- Evaluate and test potential new products in the office.
- Conduct on-site Reviews/Inspections to verify adherence to Federal, State, and Local standard operating procedures.
- Performs other duties as may be required by the Director.
