Description: C.E. King High School, a 6A high school in fast-growth Sheldon ISD in northeast Houston, has an immediate opening for our Theatre Director position, who will work on an on-campus team of 2 full-time theatre teachers to lead the award-winning King Theatre program and all 9th-12 Grade drama classes (acting and tech paths). All areas of theatre expertise will be considered (acting/directing side and/or tech side; professional and/or educational experience), as will degreed, non-certified candidates interested in adjunct employment and obtaining teacher certification. C.E. King HS and its in-house Performing Arts Center are beautiful and less than 5 years old, including a full auditorium, black box, scene shop, costume/makeup facilities, and a theatre classroom, and the district begins construction on a new, adjacent 9th and 10th Grade Campus soon that will also include new theatre facilities. The vertical program is supported by full-time teachers and award-winning theatre programs at two middle schools (King MS and Null MS) and at the King High School 9th Grade Campus. Last year's "Little Shop of Horrors" musical production earned 22 Tommy Tune Award Nominations (with 4 Finalists and 1 Winner), and UIL One Act Plays regularly advance. Teacher salaries, stipends, and budgets are competitive, and the Fine Arts programs are well supported. The position may include a prorated $3,000-$5,000 annual stipend depending on experience. A minimum of three full co-curricular productions are staged each year: a fall musical (this year, "Chicago"), a UIL One Act Play, and a Spring Showcase, which includes candidates needing to be available for after-school and/or weekend rehearsals and shows.
Provide instruction to high school students in the elements and components of Theater Arts instruction; Responsible for building a program through competition in UIL-sanctioned events; Work cooperatively with district theater arts teachers.
Texas Certified or in an Alternative Certification Program and eligible to be hired.
